John Brown earned his Masters degree in counseling and educational psychology from New Mexico State University prior to moving to Costa Rica. During 14 years in Costa Rica, he obtained psychologist licensure and worked as the psychologist of reference for the United States Embassy in San José, as a counselor and principal for the American International School of Costa Rica, as a clinical director of a regional substance abuse treatment program, university lecturer, and as a private practice psychotherapist. Prior to returning to the United States in 2006, he served as an academic vice chancellor for the Latin American University of Science and Technology. John joined the UNM Department of Internal Medicine as a Health Educator for the New Mexico AIDS Education and Training Center in 2006, where he became involved in Project ECHO. He is now the Program Operations Director for Project ECHO. Fluent in Spanish, he has traveled extensively in Latin America, and has a particular interest in extending the ECHO model into international settings.
