Dr. Karla Thornton received her MD degree from the University of Texas at Southwestern, Dallas in 1992 and an MPH from the University of Michigan. She completed residency training in Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. She is board certified in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine. Dr. Thornton is an Associate Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center. She joined the ECHO team in October 2005 as an expert in the treatment of HIV/HCV coinfection. She helps to facilitate the Corrections and Community Hepatitis C clinics and has recently started an HIV telemedicine clinic. In her spare time she enjoys swimming, running, biking, playing the piano and growing her own food.
